Novak Djokovic- Ready to rewrite History !
The stage is set for Novak Djokovic to win the 21st grand slam trophy- The most in the history and will further strengthen his claim to GOAT debate. The question here is will he be able to cross the last hurdle left for achieving the Grand Slam greatness??
There are 2 possibilities for the outcome of this match: the 1st being- Novak will do it as he has done uncountable times in his career before. He is well verse with playing in the situations where it matters the most.
The 2nd being- He may succumb to the pressure put up by his rival Daniil Medvedev. Now this may not have much of weight to it given how he was outplayed by Novak in this year’s Australian Open Final, losing in straight sets.
But we all know the quality of Medvedev- A player who is considered as a better version of Novak. His all-round play, ground stroke variety, tactical adjustments are all reminiscent of Djokovic. The only factor which differentiates them is experience which was very evident in their last match. Medvedev will be playing in his 3rd Grand Slam Final and would want to go one step further this time.

Djokovic after winning Australian Open Final |
"Of course, again, if I play Novak, he has 20 Slams, going for the Calendar Slam, it's not a must, but I want to do it even more," he added. "That's normal. The more you lose something, the more you want to win it, the more you want to gain it and take it. I lost two finals. I want to win the third one."
The
other factor which may play its role in this match is- Total time spent on
court. Here the Russian has clear edge as he spent only close to 11 hrs on
court before final; 6 hrs less than the Serbian. And it may play a big role in
longer rallies if Medvedev is able to make Novak run around the court which is
not an easy task. Djokovic on other hand will try to keep the rallies short and
will not shy away from using his well disguised drop-shots which can put the
Russian off-balance. Medvedev should be wary of these tactics and would have
learnt a lot from his last outing in Australia.
"I'll probably be in the history books if I don't let him do this" - Daniil Medvedev

Medvedev after winning a point in US Open 2021 |
As per the Russian, he didn’t leave his heart out in Australian Open Final and wants to turn up the heat this time by playing his best tennis. Medvedev further said that the pressure would be more on Novak due to importance of the occasion but also goes on saying that it may also make him more determined in tough moments.
It is going to be electrifying atmosphere in Arthur Ashe Stadium on Sunday night. Both will try to put other under pressure by playing their A Game. It will be a battle between two of the best backhands in the game. While Novak is a master of cross-court play and switching from defense to offense at will, Medvedev is the one of the best players in this generation who can adjust his game plan faster than anyone when required.
Americans love to see a hard-fought battle and we may see a lot of support for Medvedev as he is an underdog coming in this match. It may be a very close match this time around. The longer exchanges may play a role in the outcome so it will be interesting to see how they both adjust their game plans in adverse moments.
I’m going to lean towards Medvedev in this match as he is fresher, much more experienced and determined to taste the grand slam glory for the first time.
